The Story

Komorebi (木漏れ日) roughly translated means, scattered light breaking through the shadows of the trees. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I am surrounded by tall trees and get to witness this beautiful phenomenon quite often. When looking for inspiration for this album, I was walking in the park near my home. As the light cut through the tops of the trees, I thought to myself, I wonder if there’s a word that describes these rays of light. I went home and ran a quick search online and discovered that we don’t have a word for it in English. However, the Japanese refer to it as Komorebi. So, for this album at least, I found myself turning to my Japanese heritage to find inspiration. I hope that you enjoy this music. For me, it’s what I hear in my head while I walk through the woods experiencing the beauty of Komorebi.
